Chargers Take Victory in Five Over the Pirates

CYPRESS, CA - Cypress women's volleyball (16-5, 8-4 OEC) took home the victory against the Orange Coast Pirates (13-6, 7-4 OEC) in five sets (25-13, 25-20, 21-25, 21-25, 15-13).

In the opening set, both teams scored back-and-forth until Cypress took charge with a 12 point run over the Pirates. The visiting team was unable to respond as the Chargers led the match, 1-0. 

Cypress carried their momentum into the second set as they battled the Pirates all the way up to the score of 18-18. Then, Zoe Ziegler shut down a long rally that jolted the team's energy to win the second set, 25-20.

Down by two sets, the Pirates searched for a comeback. The third set came down to the wire and the Pirates managed to pull off a crucial win to stay in the match, 21-25. 

As the fourth set began, it was evident that neither team was willing to back down. However, the Pirates were able to pull off the victory and force a set tie. 

The atmosphere in Don Johnson Court was electric as the fifth and final set began. The teams battled neck and neck throughout the set until the Pirates served the ball over the back line for the Chargers match point. Cypress claimed the final set 15-13 and defeated the Pirates 3-2.

 

UP NEXT: The Chargers are back on home court against the Golden West Rustlers on Wednesday, November 1st. Match will begin at 6PM.
