Chargers Sweep the Bobcats

CYPRESS, CA - Cypress (13-3, 5-2 OEC) swept the Bobcats (10-4, 6-2 OEC) 25-22, 25-14, 25-17 at Don Johnson Court on Wednesday evening.

The Chargers battled the Bobcats at the start of the match with even scores that led up to 6-6. Then came Kiana Salamone with back-to-back aces that pushed the Chargers ahead of the Bobcats 8-6. Cypress kept the momentum going as they started to pull away from Saddleback by eight (22-14). Long rallies and poor mistakes by the Chargers had the visiting team creep back in the game within two (24-22). Sophomore, Kaelyn Arnold entered and put a stop to the Bobcats comeback as she hit over the set winning kill with a soft touch tip over the net, 25-22.

The energy that Cypress created in the first set traveled throughout the rest of the match. Rose Whitter shut down the opposing team with a hammer strike kill to take the second set, 25-14. Cypress was up 2-0 in the match as Whitter found another sweet spot on the other side to open the third set. The Chargers defeated the Bobcats in three straight sets and earned their ninth sweep of the season.

The Chargers were led by Shayna Martinez (10 kills, 7 digs, 3 block assists), Hailey Church (17 assists, 1 service ace, 5 digs), Jessica Ferreira (5 aces, 2 assists, 6 digs), and Rose Whitter (7 kills, 1 service ace, 10 digs, 2 block assists).
