Cypress Lands Sixth Sweep On the Season

CYPRESS, CA - Cypress women's volleyball swept the Santiago Canyon Hawks in their conference opener Friday evening (25-4, 25-17, 25-14). 

The Chargers Libero, Jessica Ferreira got off to a hot start landing two aces back-to-back that led the team, 5-2. Then, Ferreira added on three more to reach her season high of five service aces. Cypress never let up their lead which kept the Hawks at a single digit score to end the first set, 25-4.

In the start of the second set, Santiago Canyon shook off their first set jitters to keep up with the Chargers, 11-11. At the draw, Kiana Salamone hit two aces in a row that turned up the energy and gave the team's first lead of the set. The Chargers continued their momentum and won the second set off of freshman, Andrea Briseno, 25-17.

In the third set, the Hawks took their first lead of the night early on. However, the Chargers kept the ace trend moving when Hailey Church landed ace after ace that put the team in a strong lead. Cypress pulled away their sixth sweep on the season after Lauren Villar earned the match point kill, 25-14.

Cypress women's volleyball had a total of 25 service aces as a team. Shayna Martinez and Hailey Church led the Chargers with six aces each. Kiana Salamone added four aces and led the team with 15 assists. Jessica Ferreira chimed in five aces, two assists, and three digs that helped led Cypress to victory.

UP NEXT: The Chargers continue conference play on the road at Irvine Valley College. The match is on Wednesday, September 20th and is set to begin at 6PM.
