Women's Volleyball Clinch OEC Title

CYPRESS, CA- The #8 Cypress Chargers (23-2, 15-1 OEC) hosted the #20 Orange Coast Pirates (18-5, 11-4 OEC) on Friday night in the final conference match of the season. The Chargers won in straight sets (25-19, 25-9, 25-11) to put the finishing touches on a near-perfect conference season while clinching the OEC title.

The offensive show was led by Rachel Gonzales who recorded 10 kills. Alexis Flores came to play with seven kills, four solo blocks and three aces. Libero, Zoe Munn, led the defense for Cypress with 11 digs as the Chargers dominated both sides of the ball.

The Pirates opened up set one with a 5-1 lead but it did not take long for the Chargers to shift into gear. A kill from Vanila Pulu-Suliafu tied the score at eight and was the spark the Chargers offense needed to take the lead, going up 15-13. The Chargers remained in front as the set went on, but the Pirates hung around, 22-19. Three straight points and a kill from Tainea Allen ended the set with a score of 25-19.

Cypress would not look back as they went on to win set two in dominating fashion, 25-9. The final set showed more powerful offense from the Chargers and three straight kills from Alli Arriolla, Rachel Gonzales and Alexis Flores giving the team a commanding 21-7 lead. A final kill from Sophomore Amanda Risch finished set three and the match, with a score of 25-11.

UP NEXT: The Chargers women's volleyball team will host round one of the playoffs at Don Johnson Court on November 23rd at 6PM. The CCCAA So Cal Regional bracket will be released Thursday, November 18th, as the Chargers make a run at the state title.
