#21 Cypress Volleyball Upsets #14 Long Beach in Four Sets

CYPRESS, CA- The #21 Cypress Chargers Volleyball team (4-1) hosted the #14 Long Beach City Vikings (2-3) on Wednesday night. Cypress took a stunning 3-1 victory over Long Beach City in a four set match, 24-26, 25-19, 25-22, 25-17.

Tainea Allen led the Chargers with 17 kills followed by Amanda Risch with 13 kills. Zoe Munn set the tone with 18 digs but not so far behind, Vanila Pulu-Suliafu had 11 digs and 46 assists. Rachel Gonzales also played a key role by providing the team with nine kills and six digs.

In the first set, the Chargers and Vikings battled it out as they went back to back keeping the score close. It was Vanila Pulu-Suliafu who took charge and set the tone with an ace to give the Chargers the lead at 22-20. Vikings ultimately came out on top as they took the first set, 26-24. Cypress began to build momentum in the second set as they pulled away from the Vikings with an 18-13 lead. It was Zoe Munn who led Cypress with two digs in one play giving the set victory to the Chargers 25-19. Vikings seeked to take away the momentum from Cypress with an early 9-7 lead in the third set. Chargers shutdown any hope of a comeback when Tainea Allen came in with a stunning kill giving Cypress a smooth lead, 22-17. Vikings continued to battle through but it was Cypress who ended out on top winning the third set at 25-22. Set four was no different, with now an amped up Chargers squad as they sailed through the fourth set taking a huge set victory, 25-17, upsetting the Vikings 3-1. 

UP NEXT: Chargers take the road to San Diego as they face San Diego Mesa at 1:00pm and Canyon at 3:00pm on Friday, September 10th.
