Chargers Explode for 8 Goals in Win Over Hornets

CYPRESS, CA - Cypress women's soccer (9-2-2, 4-1-1 OEC) dominated in their blowout win over the Fullerton Hornets (2-9, 1-5 OEC), 8-1.

The Chargers welcomed the Hornets to Ray Haas field for an Orange Empire Conference matchup. Earlier in the week, Cypress would escape Golden West with a one goal victory. However against Fullerton, the Chargers exploded for eight goals in the game.

Out of the gate, Cypress scored a goal in the 2nd minute from Itzel Ramirez. Off of an assist from Megan Alcantara, Ramirez was able to beat the goalkeeper for the games first score. Eight minutes later at the 10th minute mark, Alcantara scored her own goal. A beautiful strike from just outside the box landed against the net past a diving Hornet keeper for the 2-0 lead.

Just before the clock hit 30 minutes, the home team scored their third goal. From a corner kick off the foot of Jasmin Martinez, Amber Mielke leaped into the air to head the ball into the net.

After halftime, the Chargers worked to extend their already hefty lead. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Ramirez found the back of the net for her second goal of the game. Merely three minutes later, Ramirez headed a corner kick into the net to earn a hat trick.

Cypress would not let up as they continued their scoring. Abigail Morales would find the net twice at the 58th and 65th minute. Alyssa Skarr also scored to make it an eight goal advantage. Fullerton managed to crack the scoreboard for a goal at the 77th minute to make it 8-1.

Ramirez had an incredible day as she scored three times to earn a hat trick. Morales nearly had a hat trick as well with her two goals scored. Alcantara played well up and down the field as she scored once and recorded three assists.

UP NEXT: The Chargers will continue their conference schedule as they will host Irvine Valley on Tuesday, October 17th. Kickoff will be at 3pm.
