Chargers Drop Home Opener to Mt. SAC

CYPRESS, CA - The No. 5 Chargers (5-1) dropped to No. 8 Mounties (4-1-1) in the first home game of the season, 3-1.

Cypress women's soccer hosted their home opener against Mt. San Antonio College on wednesday afternoon. Sophomores, Carisia Raygoza and Chloe Imperiali took shots at the Mounties early in the first half to gain momentum. Then, Megan Alcantara floated the ball from the corner to set up the Chargers in scoring position. Amber Mielke saw the opportunity and took a shot on goal that bounced off the keeper. The ball fumbled back and forth in the box until Mielke regained control to pass the ball across to Celine Gehrig for the first goal. Cypress continued to lead in the first half, 1-0 until Mt. SAC answered with a long shot from Brianna Bernal that bounced passed the Chargers goalie into the back of the net, 1-1. 

In the second half, the Mounties took the lead 2-1 within ten minutes of play. Both teams battled for possession as each team had five shots and one save from the keepers. The high physicality of the game cost the Chargers yet another goal for the Mounties off a penalty kick. Cypress was unable to bounce back and loss their first game of the season, 3-1. 

UP NEXT: The Chargers travel to Long Beach City College to continue non-conference play. Kickoff on Tuesday, September 19th at 5PM.
