Women's Soccer Back On Top, Defeat Santiago Canyon 2-0

CYPRESS, CA- Cypress women's soccer (15-1-2, 10-1-2 OEC) faced their most important test of the season on Tuesday afternoon. The #6 Chargers took on the #2 Santiago Canyon Hawks in a battle for the top spot in the Orange Empire Conference. Cypress came out victorious as they took care of business defeating Santiago Canyon, 2-0.

The Chargers put the pressure on early with a goal in the third minute. Brianna Rodriguez blazed down the right side of the field and fired a shot from 25 yards out. The ball sailed over the keepers head and found the corner of the net to put the Chargers up 1-0. Santiago Canyon would answer quickly with a shot that sailed just over crossbar by Summer Stewart. Cypress goalkeeper, Siriana Gudino, would keep the Chargers lead safe as she came up with three clutch saves in the first half.

Cypress was on the attack again in the 35th minute where they earned a corner kick. Defender, Lucia Yanez, lined up for the kick where she curled the ball towards the near post and found the back of the net off the hands of Santiago Canyon's goalkeeper.  The Chargers continued to find quality looks in the second half, but they were unable to expand on their 2-0 lead. Santiago Canyon got off four shots in the second half, but both teams were unable to strike up any offense. The Chargers would go on to win the match 2-0.

The Chargers fifteenth victory of the season places them at the top of the OEC with a confernece record of 10-1-2. The Chargers hold the tie breaker over both Santiago Canyon (10-2-1) and Saddleback (9-1-2) as they control their own destiny in pursuit of the Orange Empire Conference Championship.

UP NEXT: The Chargers will wrap up their season at Fullerton College on Friday, November 12th. With a win the Chargers will take home back-to-back OEC titles for the first time since 2004.
