Chargers Defeat College of the Canyons by 10

CYPRESS, CA - Cypress women's basketball (4-10) defeated College of the Canyons (7-7) at home, 51-41.

Cypress women's basketball hosted College of the Canyons Cougars on Don Johnson Court before they head into conference-play. The Chargers were off to a slow start as they trailed behind the Cougars by 10 at the end of the first quarter. Freshman, Dorothy Schwenck lit up the squad with back-to-back 3-pointer's and a forced turnover on the Cougars up the court to minimize the Canyons lead by three. Cypress carried their momentum on the defensive end with full court pressure to finish the half behind Canyons, 26-22. 

At the start of the third quarter, the Chargers took control with their first lead of the game 27-26 by another made 3-pointer from Schwenck. Journie Hayden brought down a season-high of 15 rebounds to help the Chargers with second chance opportunities. The home team managed to finish the third quarter in the lead (36-34) as both teams traded baskets in the last five minutes. Then, the Chargers pulled away with the victory in the final minutes of the game, 51-41.
