Women's Basketball Win on Sophomore Night

CYPRESS, CA- Cypress women's basketball (19-7, 7-3 OEC) won on Sophomore Night at home against Irvine Valley College (19-8, 7-4 OEC), 72-55. 

Cypress gained the lead quickly in the Friday night matchup against IVC with a 3-point shot from Ashley Hawkins. The two teams were point-for-point in the beginning of the game, but Cypress led by 5 at the end of the first. JoAnna Stroud made a huge layup that kept the momentum on the Charger's side, making it 25-19. The first half ended with a score of 37-27, with two consecutive layups from Hawkins and Thao Trung. 

Alexcia Alvarez started the second half off with a bang, extending the Charger's lead to 12. With a huge block from Amiyah Williams, Cypress remained on top for the remainder of the game. Hawkins and Jasmine Uy finished out the scoring for the Chargers with 4 free-throws. Then, Cypress ended their victory with a Sophomore Night celebration. 

Ashley Hawkins had an incredible performance with 34 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Alexcia Alvarez was the second high-scorer for the Chargers with 10 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Jasmine Uy had an all-around performance with 8 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal.
