Chargers Women’s Basketball Set to Start Conference Play

CYPRESS, CA- Cypress women's basketball (12-4, 0-0 OEC) prepare to face off against OEC opponents as conference play begins Wednesday, January 4th versus Santa Ana. 

Finishing the holiday break, the Chargers begin playing inner conference teams. Entering the midway point of the season, women's basketball has found themselves with an impressive 12-4 record. Throughout their 16 games, Cypress have competed in tournaments at Merced, LA Valley, Grossmont and hosted the Lady Charger Classic. 

Before the break, the team won their third consecutive matchup to achieve their double digit win season. Cypress defeated MiraCosta and Victor Valley to win two of three at the Grossmont Holiday Classic. Ashley Hawkins tallied yet another All-Tournament Honors at the tournament. During the three games, she recorded 53 points, 16 rebounds and 7 assists. To close out 2022, the Chargers walloped Cerritos College in an overall team effort, 63-38. 

Women's basketball hopes to continue their momentum into January. Placing third in the 2021-2022 season, the team has been working to improve as they have been winning big leading up to OEC play. With 12 wins on the season, they have almost doubled their win total from the same time last year. Cypress have already put themselves in a great position in the Orange Empire Conference. 

UP NEXT: The Chargers will be hosting Santa Ana for their first conference matchup on Wednesday, January 4th. Tip off will be at 6PM.
