Chargers Travel to Mt. SAC to Compete for Tenth State Title

CYPRESS, CA- Charger softball (37-6) is set to compete in the State Tournament on Thursday, May 18th.

Cypress has made it to the State Tournament and is now one of the final eight teams to advance for a title. The Chargers will take on the College of San Mateo in game four on the first day of the tournament.

Entering, Cypress has been ranked third from the SoCal region while San Mateo has been placed second from the NorCal region. The Bulldogs had finished first in the Coast Conference with a 37-7 overall record. San Mateo was undefeated against their conference competitors and are visiting the tournament for their ninth consecutive year.

To get to the State Tournament, the Chargers won the Regional and the Super Regional Rounds in the 3C2A SoCal bracket. Both rounds brought a three-game series against Pasadena City College and Ventura City College.

Pasadena City College was their first contender as they bested the Lancers in two one-run games for the series sweep. The Super Regionals brought the Ventura Pirates to Cypress College. The Chargers shutout the Pirates in both games and walked-off Ventura with a mercy victory to end the SoCal bracket.

Traveling to neutral grounds at Mt. San Antonio College, the two softball program juggernauts will compete to move into the winners bracket. Being game four under the lights, the winner will play the victor of the Folsom Lake and Palomar matchup.

The Chargers are coming off a dominant weekend against Ventura. MVP of the OEC Emily Rush pitched two complete game shutouts and First Team selection Kaitlin Reynolds had an incredible offensive series. The second baseman finished the two game sweep 4-6 with three RBI and three runs scored.

Cypress finished first in the Orange Empire Conference and successfully surpassed the 3C2A SoCal Regionals bracket and is entering the State Tournament for the sixth consecutive year. After celebrating Head Coach Brad Pickler's 1,500th win in the Super Regionals, the Chargers look to give him and the program its tenth State Title.
