Cypress Softball Remains Unbeaten in OEC Play with 6-1 Victory Over Saddleback

CYPRESS, CA- Charger softball (19-2, 9-0 OEC) took the season series against the Saddleback Bobcats (11-9, 2-5 OEC) on Thursday afternoon, 6-1.

On the cloudy windy day, both teams' offenses were quiet on the scoreboard early in the matchup. In the third, the Chargers managed to break through for a run. The 3CFCA Player of the Week, Emily Rush, doubled to put a runner in scoring position for the Cypress bats. On a fly out to the right fielder, Rush tagged to advance to third. An error throw allowed her to cross home for the first score of the game.

For the teams last opportunity to put runs on the board, the home team exploded for five runs. Cameron Curiel started the action when she singled, stole second base and advanced to third on the error throw attempt. Ashlynn Ortiz singled in Curiel and then was later knocked in from a Jaylene Duarte hit. With bases loaded in the inning, Kaitlyn Reynolds cleared the bags for 3 RBIs and additional insurance runs.

The Chargers cemented the season sweep of the Bobcats with the 6-1 win. Second baseman Reynolds had an impressive day at the plate as she went 3-3 with 3 RBIs from her bases-clearing double. Ortiz and Duarte both had multi-hit games with an RBI, double and run scored. On the mound, Rush pitched a complete game as she only allowed one run, five hits and struck out four batters. Cypress remains undefeated in the OEC and is on a twelve game win streak.

UP NEXT: The Chargers next contest will be at Fullerton for a conference matchup, Friday, March 24th. First pitch will be at 2pm.
