Cypress Tops Santiago Canyon for Tenth Straight Win

CYPRESS, CA- Charger softball (16-2, 8-0 OEC) earned their eighth OEC win against the Santiago Canyon Hawks (6-10, 0-4 OEC) on Friday afternoon.

Cypress hosted a St. Patrick's Day themed conference face off as the team welcomed the Hawks in their holiday green attire. The Chargers started off hot with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Kaitlyn Reynolds smacked the ball to the wall for a triple which scored Jaylene Duarte from first.

Later in the first, Camryn Addimando singled in Reynolds. Cameron Curiel earned an RBI from a bases loaded walk to make it 3-0. The scoreboard went untouched for the three frames that followed. In the fourth, Santiago Canyon managed to tally a run to cut their deficit to two.

The Chargers responded in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own. Jolee Rodriguez roped a hit to score Ashlynn Ortiz to add insurance. The Cypress bats repeated in the fifth inning when Lizbeth Gomez launched the ball over the center fielders head which allowed Mikala Jacobsen to cross home for a 5-1 lead.

For the third consecutive inning, the home team put runs on the board. After a Rodriguez walk, leadoff hitter Emily Rush launched a home run over the left field wall to blow it open. After a bases-loaded jam in the final frame, the Cypress defense escaped with no further damage and sealed their eighth conference victory.

Ortiz was the only Charger to have a multi-hit game as she went 2-3 and touched home. Rush smacked a home run for two RBI's and Reynolds went 1-3 with an RBI with a run scored. On the mound, Rush pitched all seven frames with two strikeouts and only allowed one earned run. The Chargers are on their tenth win in a row and eighth consecutive OEC win.
