Chargers Sweep Antelope Valley in Doubleheader

CYPRESS, CA- Charger softball (16-2, 8-0 OEC) hosted the Antelope Valley Marauders (6-10, 0-4 OEC) for a double-header feature on Saturday. 

Game One vs Antelope Valley, 8-0 (Cypress)

The first face off lasted only five innings as Cypress mercied the Marauders. In the first frame, Camryn Addimando laced a double to score Emily Rush and Kaitlyn Reynolds for a quick advantage. An inning later, Rush tallied an RBI single as Jaiden Stern crossed home. To cap the scoring in the second, Duarte knocked in Vanessa Correa to go up four runs. 

In the third, Lizbeth Gomez doubled in Addimando and Stern followed with an RBI single to make six runs. A batter after, Duarte took four balls with bases loaded for an RBI and seventh run. Gomez repeated her success at the plate in the fourth with an RBI hit to aid the mercy score. 

The Chargers took the first game 8-0 after they put runs on the scoreboard in every inning. Addimando was successful at the plate and was responsible for four of the total runs. She went 3-3, knocked in two RBIs and scored twice. Gomez also had a multi-hit game with her 2-3 day at the plate, two RBIs and run scored. Duarte tallied two RBIs as well with her hit and walk. From the mound, Rush delivered 4.0 scoreless frames with three strikeouts. Addimando came in for an inning and struck out the side to close out the first game. 

Game Two vs Antelope Valley, 6-4 (Cypress)

It was more of the same in the second matchup with Cypress able to take an early lead.  Duarte doubled in the first which allowed Rush to score from second base. Addimando followed with a hit of her own that had Duarte cross home plate. For the third run in the inning, Reynolds came across from an error committed by the Marauders. 

In the second, Cameron Curiel started the inning with a walk and then stole second. She came in to score from second off of an RBI single from Caitlin Bowerman. After Correa reached from a fielder's choice, Rush doubled to bring her in for the fifth run of the game. An inning later, Ashlynn Ortiz had Addimando in scoring position and hit her in from an RBI single. 

Antelope Valley was able to tally their first run on the day after an error gave the opportunity for a run-scoring hit. A similar situation occurred an inning after when the Marauders scored their second run from a Charger throwing error. The Marauders managed to score two more runs in their final opportunity from small ball and a passed ball from Cypress. Though it was close in the end, the home team walked away with their second win on the day, 6-4. 

Addimando earned another multi-hit game with her 2-3 day, one RBI and run scored. Bowerman, Rush, Duarte and Ortiz each tallied a hit and an RBI in the second game. Reynolds pitched 6.2 frames, struck out three and allowed four runs to cross. Rush came in for the save and got the final out of the game to seal the victory. Chargers softball earned two wins in Saturday's doubleheader as they continue to lead the OEC standings. 

UP NEXT: The Chargers will be on the road for their next conference game against the Saddleback Bobcats on Wednesday, March 22nd. First pitch will be at 2pm.
