Chargers Softball Extend Win Streak

CYPRESS, CA- Charger softball (13-2, 6-0 OEC) outscored the Cerritos Falcons (8-5, 3-1 SCC) on Monday afternoon, 9-3.

The Chargers got the bases busy in the first inning. With bags full, Cameron Curiel managed to score a run on a fielder's choice to put the home team up early. After the defense escaped a first and third scenario in the top of the second, the offense was able to tack on two more runs.

In a two out at-bat, Jaylene Duarte roped the ball over the outfielder's heads into the left center ally. She landed on third and brought home Mikala Jacobsen and Emily Rush for a two-RBI triple. For the third and fourth innings, both lineups went scoreless.

The fifth inning brought trouble for Cypress as the visiting Falcons tied the ball game. An error in the outfield allowed two base runners to touch home after a single. A sacrifice fly out gave Cerritos a third run in the frame and knotted it up at three apiece.

Jacobsen came in clutch in the bottom of the frame with a two run single to help the Chargers regain the lead. The home team worked to add insurance runs from key two out situational at-bats. Jolee Rodriguez tallied two RBIs on a single and Duarte followed with an near identical two run hit. Camryn Addimando capped the scoring effort in the fifth frame with an RBI single that scored Rush. Cypress managed to hold off any further Falcon offensive and kept Cerritos scoreless for the remainder of the game to win, 9-3.

The Chargers capitalized off of key two-out hits with runners in scoring position to be on top at the end of seven innings. Duarte was responsible for three of Cypress's nine runs with her 3-4 day, three RBIs and a triple. Jacobsen went 2-3, touched home twice and knocked in two runs. Rush pitched the whole game as she struck out three batters, only allowed three runs and did not give up an extra-base hit. The Chargers find themselves undefeated in OEC play and on a seven game win streak.

UP NEXT: The Chargers will be back on the diamond on Tuesday, March 14th against the Golden West Rustlers. First pitch will be at 2pm.
