Chargers Comeback to Defeat District Rival

Chargers Comeback to Defeat District Rival

CYPRESS, CA- Chargers softball (8-2, 2-0 OEC) defeated the Fullerton Hornets (7-3, 1-1 OEC) on Wednesday afternoon, 6-2.

After the rain stopped, the Chargers took on their district rival for a conference matchup. A quiet first inning followed with a second frame where three Cypress errors led to two Hornets runs. Fullerton only kept their lead for an inning as the home team worked to score runs.

The Chargers response was quick when they tied the game in the third. Ashlynn Ortiz reached first from an error and later scored from an Emily Rush double to the wall. Camryn Addimando repeated the trend with her own double to score Rush and tie the game with two runs on each side. In the fourth, Jolee Rodriguez knocked in two runs with her base hit to give the home team their first lead of the day. An inning later, the Chargers worked to create insurance runs. A Mikala Jacobsen hit allowed Addimando to touch home and a Rodriguez walk with bases full made it six for Cypress. The home team did not allow any runs after the second frame and scored two runs in three consecutive innings to win, 6-2.

Though Cypress suffered three errors early in the game, they recovered swiftly and persevered with their bats. Addimando and Jacobsen both had multi-hit games with an RBI and a run scored. Leadoff hitter and pitcher Rush got two hits with an RBI and pitched the whole game. She only allowed two runs from three hits and collected three strikeouts. In their first home conference matchup, the Chargers made a comeback to tally a second OEC win.

UP NEXT: Cypress will host the Saddleback Bobcats on Thursday, March 2nd. First pitch will be at 1pm.
