CYPRESS, CA- Charger softball (24-7, 13-2 OEC) hosted the Orange Coast Pirates (14-16, 6-9 OEC) on Wednesday afternoon. Cypress was able to come back from an early 2-0 deficit to defeat OCC 4-2.
Emily Rush (7.0 IP) did it all for the Chargers on Tuesday as she pitched a complete game, topped off by a 2-for-4 day with 2 RBI's. Nivea Armenta (1-for-2) and Cameron Curiel (1-for-3) both knocked in a run while also scoring a run for Cypress.
After a scoreless first inning, the Pirates scored the first two runs of the game in the second inning after a defensive mistake by Cypress. The Chargers finally got their bats going in the 4th inning as Nivea Armenta doubled, starting a two out rally. Sophie Little reached base on a defensive error and then stole second putting runners at second and third. Cameron Curiel and Emily Rush came up clutch with back to back singles giving the Chargers a 3-2 lead. Armenta would add one more insurance run in the bottom of the fifth before Cypress coasted to a 4-2 victory.
UP NEXT: Cypress will be back on their home diamond tomorrow as they host Santiago Canyon in a battle for first place. First pitch will be at 2pm.
