Cypress Begins OEC Play with Resounding 4-0 Victory Against OCC

Cypress, CA: The Cypress Chargers (7-0, 1-0 OEC) hosted the Orange Coast Pirates (6-4, 0-1 OEC) on Wednesday afternoon.  The Chargers stayed undefeated garnering serious momentum as they began Orange Empire Conference (OEC) play with a 4-0 victory.

Paige Shafer (2-for-3) led the Chargers with two RBI's. Coming off her Charger of the Week selection, Emily Rush (1-for-3) finished with a triple and one RBI while also tossing five innings and giving up zero runs. Sara Crespo, Ariana Hencke and Nivea Armenta each notched one hit on the day.

Rush set the tone in the top half of the first with a quick 1-2-3 inning. Shafer and the Chargers came out the gates with a two run triple in the first inning. Cameron Curiel came around to score in the fifth inning off of an error by the Orange Coast shortstop to put the Chargers up 3-0. Rush would continue her fantastic day and join Shafer with an RBI triple to set a commanding 4-0 lead with two innings left to play. Aubry New pitched two innings of shutout ball as she did not give up a hit to the Pirates. 

The Pirates would try to make a late game rally behind two seventh innings hits from Nadia Perez and Gianna Gozo, but the Chargers pitching was able to shut them down to complete the shutout. 

UP NEXT: The Chargers next match is scheduled to be played on the road against Long Beach on Friday at 1 p.m.
