Cypress Opens OEC Play with Loss to Riverside, 20-13

CYPRESS, CA- Cypress Chargers men's water polo (2-2. 0-1 EOC) hosted the Riverside Tigers (3-4, 1-0 OEC) on Wednesday afternoon in the Orange Empire Conference opening game. The Chargers fought hard but fell short to the Tigers, 20-13.

The Cypress offense was led by Brian Huynh who scored four goals followed by Ethan Landaverde who scored three. Jin Ho Choi Park and John Zeff led the team in assists with four followed by Drake Wallace, Washington Palacios-Tellez, and Cody Beltheis who each had three. 

Cypress trailed early in the match after getting off to a slow start ending the first period down, 7-2. In the second quarter, the Chargers gave their best effort playing the Tigers even as Riverside maintained their five goal lead. Riverside kept the offensive pressure on the Chargers scoring three straight goals in the third period extending their lead by one. The first quarter deficit was too large for the Chargers to battle back from as they lost, 20-13.
