Cypress Men's Basketball Season Preview: New Beginnings

CYPRESS, CA - Men's basketball finished the 2022-23 postseason in the second round of the 3C2A SoCal Regionals.

Cypress men's basketball started their non-conference schedule with three games played and a 1-2 record. Last season, they ended fourth in the OEC and made it to the second round of playoffs in the postseason. Sophomores Mark Onyejekwe, Luke Washington, and Allen Wright are returning this season for the Chargers.

"There's a lot of things that go into basketball, and we got to teach these guys it's more than just scoring a basket. We have to make sure we're rebounding, defending, passing the ball, making good passes, setting good screens. It's a process, but I like where we're at," said men's Head Coach Andrew Alhadeff. Cypress is focused on coaching their new players and freshmen so that they'll be a dominant team this season.

"This year, I like my group a lot. We have a lot of new faces, so learning has been kind of a challenge. We don't have many sophomores other than our two returners, Mark and Allen," said Coach Alhadeff. "Luke Washington is back and we have a sophomore transfer, Axel Perez from Rio Hondo, so those four guys are all older, they've been through it, they've played games. We're really going to lean on them for their experience in helping us win." With many new faces on the team, the Chargers will have to work harder this season in order to build chemistry and develop winning strategies.

UP NEXT: The Chargers are headed to the Skip Robinson Classic on Thursday, November 16 - Friday, November 17.
