Irvine Valley Squeaks Past the Chargers, 46-44

CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress Chargers (14-10, 6-6 OEC) hosted the Irvine Valley Lasers (16-7, 8-4 OEC) in their second matchup this season. The Chargers led for the majority of the game, but the Lasers came out on top defeating Cypress, 46-44. 

Grant Sii (6-17 FG) led the Chargers with 16 points to go along with his 3 rebounds and 2 assists. The low scoring affair held the Chargers to 44 points on 32% shooting and 19% shooting from three-point range. Irvine Valley was led by Aaron Strings who scored 17 points, shooting 3-of-6 from downtown. Luc Krystkowiak knocked down huge free throws down the stretch for the Lasers as he totaled 11 points and 12 rebounds. 

The Cypress defense was lockdown in the first half holding IVC to 14 points on 16% shooting. Neither team could find their shooting touch from long distance in the first half as the Chargers went 2-for-14 and the Lasers went 0-for-11. The Chargers led at halftime 21-14. As the second half rolled around, the Lasers rattled off nine straight points to cut their deficit to one. The Chargers would answer and take a five point lead with 3:24 to go. IVC's, Gavin O'Neill, knocked down a three-pointer with 1:41 to play to make the score 41-40 Chargers. With 46 seconds to play, Luc Krystkowiak blocked Ramiah Adedigba on a three-point attempt and was fouled on the fast break. Krystkowiak knocked down both free throws to give IVC their first lead of the game with 43 seconds to play. The Lasers would hold on to defeat Cypress, 46-44. 

UP NEXT: Cypress will continue their 4-game homestand on Thursday, February 17, as they play host to the Golden West Rustlers. Tip-off will be at 5pm.
