Chargers Break 100 In First OEC Win, 104-68

CYPRESS, CA- The Chargers Men's basketball team (9-6, 1-2 OEC) hosted the Orange Coast Pirates (4-8, 0-2 OEC) on Wednesday night in a commanding 104-68 victory, securing their first conference win of the season.

Grant Sii led the charge for Cypress with 22 points, six rebounds and three steals. Denzel Obiaga scored 15 points off the bench while big man Hadi Essayi finished with a season-high 14 rebounds.

The Chargers opened up an early lead of 11-7 but Orange Coast was not far behind. The Pirates relied on their full-court press to slow the Chargers momentum and keep the game close throughout the first half. It was not until late in the first half when a rebound from Trent Goldman led to a fast break dunk by Felix Reeves and the Chargers took their first double-digit lead of the game, 42-31.

Cypress continued their momentum into the second half as their fast break play combined with solid three point shooting proved to be too much for the Pirates' defense. A three-pointer from Grant Sii gave the Chargers a 17 point lead early in the second half and they would not look back, going on to win in commanding fashion, 104-68.

UP NEXT: Cypress Men's basketball take the road to Saddleback College for their second match-up of the season on Thursday, December 30th. The game will tip-off at 6PM.
