Men's Basketball Season Preview

CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress Chargers men's basketball team look to prepare for the upcoming season as they travel to Irvine for a 3-day showcase at the So Cal Fall Juco Jamboree. The Jamboree will consist of three scrimmages, starting on Friday, September 17th and ending on Sunday, September 19th. The long weekend should give Head Coach Drew Alhadeff an idea of what to expect for this upcoming season. "I am extremely excited to watch our guys play," Coach Alhadeff says, "they have have been training hard all off-season and our focus in these scrimmages will be defending and rebounding. Our guys have been competing every day against each other, so it will be good to see how they match up against opposing teams."

The Chargers are returning five players from last year's team, including #1 Tommie Flanagan and #2 Ramiah Adedigba. Last year's season was cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic but the team was still able to go 2-1 in only three games played, the sole loss coming from a one-point defeat to Cerro Coso. Their last game of the 2020-21 season resulted in a dominating performance, beating Palo Verde 88-53. Tommie Flanagan led the charge in that game, dropping 13 points, four rebounds and four assists. The Chargers ended the 2019-20 season with a schedule of 16-12 (7-9 OEC), and earned the #19 seed in the Southern California Regional tournament. They ultimately fell in the first round to San Bernardino Valley, 43-60.

The men's basketball team anticipate a full season of games this year with a lot of new faces to get excited about. Trent and Felix are two newcomers who coach thinks can make an impact immediately, Flowers will add a boost defensively and Grant has stepped into a role of leadership. "We split up into teams every day at practice," Coach Drew mentioned, "Grant's team wins 90% of the time, he has been able to get those around him to play hard." Their first exhibition game will be at home on October 15th against Mira Costa at 2 PM.
