Chargers Take Game One in the Series Against Irvine Valley

CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress Chargers (15-8, 2-5 OEC) scored 16 runs in their first meeting against the Irvine Valley Lasers (8-15, 0-7 OEC),  16-6. 

The Cypress Chargers Baseball team kicked off their three-way series against Irvine Valley College in the Orange Empire Conference with a strong performance. Irvine Valley took an early lead in the first inning, scoring two runs. However, Cypress quickly responded in the bottom of the inning, with Albert De La Rosa and Derek Gonzales contributing key hits to tie the game at 2-2.

The Chargers continued their offensive onslaught in the first inning, with Jack Burke, Robert Pitts Jr., Nate Norman, Darin Chapman, and Luke Matlock all driving in runs to give Cypress a commanding 7-2 lead. Pitts Jr. added to the lead with a double in the fifth inning, followed by a run scored on a passed ball, extending the lead to 9-2 in the bottom of the fifth.

In the sixth inning, Matlock homered to increase Cypress' lead to 10-2. Gonzales, Burke, and Pitts Jr. added RBI singles to push the lead to 13-2. Irvine Valley managed to score four runs in the eighth inning, but Cypress responded with two more runs in the bottom of the inning to secure a 16-6 victory.

UP NEXT: The Chargers will travel to Irvine Valley College on Thursday, March 21 for game two. First pitch is set at 2:00pm.
