CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress Chargers (7-2) scored 24 runs in their win over the Cerro Coso Coyotes (7-5), 24-6.
Cypress started the weekend off on the correct foot with a victory over the Cerro Coso Coyotes. The last time these two teams met was in the first round of the 2023 3C2A playoff bracket. The Chargers took both games to win the 3-game series and advance in the postseason and finished the Coyotes season.
The home started the game with a blast as Cypress took an early lead from a blast and sacrifice fly. Leadoff hitter Jack Burke, worked a 3-2 to begin the afternoon. The right fielder jumped on the curveball and demolished it over the high left field wall for the leadoff bomb, 1-0. Later in the inning, Albert De La Rosa extended the edge with a sacrifice fly out, 2-0.
The Chargers did not hold up in the bottom of the second as they tallied an additional four more runs. Nathan Jackle roped the ball down the left field line for an RBI knock. With a runner on third, Trent Johnson hit a sacrifice fly to score Robert Pitts, 4-0. Evan Rolbieke and Ryan Skjonsby continued the damage with an RBI single each to cap the scoring in the second, 6-0.
De La Rosa made an incredible play at shortstop as he leapt in the air and threw out the base runner at first for a double play to end the Coyotes offense in the third. Luca Arenado led off the Chargers offensive third inning with a home run as he roasted a changeup over the left center wall for the Chargers second home run of the game, 7-0. Johnson and Burke scored two more runs for the home team with a fielder's choice and sacrifice fly, 9-0. Rolbiecke doubled down the line for his second RBI and Skjonsby singled in a run to put Cypress up double digits, 11-0.
Cerro Coso was able to put four runs on the scoreboard in the fourth frame off of two hits and an error committed by the Cypress defense. The Chargers got a run back in the fifth from an error by the Coyotes outfield, 12-4. Cypress would plate eleven runs in the sixth inning as Derek Gonzales was hit by a pitch with bases loaded and Trent Lyle reached on a catcher's interference. Skjonsby and George Papadatos each singled in a run and Brandon Wyland hit an RBI sacrifice fly. Ethan Bigani walked with bases loaded, Gonzales was hit by a pitch and Lyle all tallied an RBI. Shaked Baruch walked in a run and Darin Chapman knocked an RBI base hit. Jackson Licata scored a final run for the Chargers in the seventh from a sacrifice fly out, 24-6.
Cypress put on an offensive clinic as the team collected ___ runs in the victory. Rolbiecki led the team in total bases as he went 4-4 with three doubles, scored four times and earned two RBIs. Burke and Arenado each smashed home runs over the left field wall. Jack Pavlovsky shoved five innings and only allowed four runs and struck out six batters. Andrew Frausto came in to deliver one inning of relief to strike out two and Andy Mike struck out five in his two innings. Jayson Thomas finished the game off with one inning pitched and two strikeouts. Cypress earned their seventh win of the season in a 3C2A postseason rematch against Cerro Coso, 24-6.
UP NEXT: Cypress will remain home with a matchup against the Moorpark Raiders on Saturday, February 17th. First pitch will be at 12pm.
