Cypress Holds off El Camino in Thrilling 6-5 Victory

CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress Chargers (6-2, 0-0 OEC) defeated the El Camino Warriors (5-4, 0-0 SCC) in their second meeting of the season, 6-5.

In a nail-biting game at Cypress College, the Chargers baseball team managed to hold off El Camino in a 6-5 victory.

The game started with El Camino taking an early lead in the first inning when the team hit a solo home run. However, Cypress quickly responded in the bottom of the first inning with Dustin Robinson's RBI double and Albert De La Rosa's two-run homer, taking a 3-1 lead.

El Camino fought back in the second inning, as Jack Nammack's double brought in Matt Hammond, closing the gap to 3-2. Then, Cypress extended their lead in the bottom of the second when Derek Gonzales grounded out, allowing Nate Norman to score, making it 4-2.

The Warriors eventually tied the game in the fourth inning with a line out to left field, 4-4. Cypress reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Luke Matlock reached first base on an error by the third baseman, allowing Zach Anderson to score.

The game remained deadlocked until the ninth inning and Tommy McGuire on the mound for Cypress had bases loaded with no outs. The next at bat popped up to the catcher for the first out. With the game on the line, McGuire struckout the next two batters and pulled the Chargers out of the top of the ninth for a chance to win it all. Cypress back at the top of the lineup had Robert Pitts Jr. on deck. Pitts Jr. hit a bomb over the left center wall and secured the win with a walk-off home run.
