Cypress Defeats Folsom Lake

CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress Chargers (4-0, 0-0 OEC) defeated the Folsom Lake Falcons in a two game series (3-2, 0-0 BIG8), 16-15 & 13-2. 


Game 1

The first matchup between the Chargers and Falcons was held on Friday, February 2. However, the game was called by the officials due to darkness and resumed the following day before the start of a new game.

Cypress baseball started the game strong, with a home run by Jack Burke in the first inning which gave his team an early lead. Evan Rolbiecki followed suit with a home run of his own, which extended the Chargers lead to 2-0.

In the second inning, Folsom Lake managed to score two runs. However, Cypress responded with three runs in the bottom of the second to maintain their lead.

The game took a turn in the fourth and fifth innings when Cypress unleashed their offensive power. Dustin Robinson's double and Albert de La Rosa's double brought in multiple runs. Luke Matlock's home run in the fifth inning further solidified Cypress' dominance with the score 13-2.

Despite being down by a significant margin, Folsom Lake did not give up. In the sixth inning, they scored an impressive seven runs, which closed the gap to 13-9.

Folsom Lake's comeback efforts were valiant, but the Chargers managed to hold on to their lead. Both teams continued to score runs in the later innings, with Cypress maintaining a slim advantage. In the ninth inning, De la Rosa and Matlock added two more runs for Cypress, securing a 16-15 walk-off victory.

Game 2

Cypress baseball showcased their dominance against Folsom Lake in a game that ended in a resounding 13-2 victory.

From the beginning, it was evident that Cypress had the upper hand. Folsom Lake managed to score a run in the first inning. However, Cypress quickly responded in the second inning, scoring five runs to take a commanding lead.

The offensive onslaught continued for Cypress throughout the game, with their batters consistently finding success at the plate. Ryan Skjonsby and Dustin Robinson were the standout performers, each hitting a home run and contributed a combined seven RBIs. Evan Rolbiecki also had an impressive game as he recorded three hits and an RBI.

On the pitching front, Cypress displayed their depth and skill. Brandon Wyland started the game and held Folsom Lake to just one run in his three innings on the mound. Mason Miles, Matt Wurmlinger, and Luke Matlock also contributed solid performances, collectively allowing only one more run for Folsom Lake. The Falcons struggled to find their footing against the Chargers strong pitching and relentless offense. Despite their efforts, they were only able to muster four hits and two runs in the entire game.

UP NEXT: The Chargers will travel to El Camino College on Wednesday, February 7 for their first road game of the season. First pitch will be at 1:30pm.
