Cypress Walk-Off Victory On Opening Day Over Pasadena City, 8-7

CYPRESS, CA - The Cypress Chargers (1-0) opened up their 2024 campaign with a walk-off victory against the Pasadena City Lancers (0-1), 8-7. 

Cypress leadoff hitter Jack Burke led off the first inning with a first-pitch triple. Then, Evan Rolbiecki up next at bat, singled and brought Burke in for the Chargers first run of the season. Cypress went on to score two more runs and led the Lancers 3-1 at the end of the first inning. Each team scored in the second inning 1-1, but the Lancers took advantage in the 5th inning with a 5-0 run and the lead 7-4. As two more innings went scoreless, the Chargers scored their fifth run at the bottom of the eighth from another Rolbiecki single at two outs. Tommy McGuire at the mound in the top of the ninth struck out two batters and the Chargers infield held the Lancers to a scoreless inning. Bottom of the ninth, the home team was down two runs with bases loaded (7-5). The Lancers gave up two runs and the Chargers tied up the score 7-7. Cypress with two on base, had the upper hand for a walk-off victory. Rolbiecki at bat closed the game with a single out to left field that brought in Luke Matlock for the winning run.  

UP NEXT: Cypress will be back on the diamond Tuesday, January 30 to host Chaffey College. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30pm.
