Charger Baseball Gears Up for the 2024 Season

Charger Baseball Gears Up for the 2024 Season

CYPRESS, CA - Baseball is set to hit the diamond this Friday as the Chargers will host Pasadena City College for Opening Day.

Cypress baseball is coming off of an incredibly successful year under Head Coach Anthony Hutting. The Chargers saw a .667 overall winning percentage from a 30-15 season. In conference play, the team was again over .500 with a 12-9 record. To start Orange Empire Conference competition, Cypress got off on the right foot as they swept the Irvine Valley Lasers. The team would continue on to sweep Fullerton College and take two from Orange Coast College.

When May arrived, the Chargers finished fourth in the OEC and earned a playoff spot in the 3C2A postseason bracket. Cypress had been ranked No. 5 in the SoCal bracket and No. 21 in the entire state. For their first playoff appearance in the Regional round, the Chargers took the first two games against Cerro Coso and advanced in the playoffs. Cypress then visited Santa Ana College for a double elimination event as they defeated the Santa Barbara Vaqueros to stay alive. Against Santa Ana in the Super Regional round, Cypress pushed for three games but ultimately fell and concluded their season.

The team and Head Coach Hutting experienced a wild 2023 season which allowed the core to strengthen and grow as a unit. After the season, Cypress baseball would see 15 of their former players commit to four-year institutions across the Nation. The Chargers baseball program was proud to continue their successful track record of getting their student-athletes to the next level. With a hefty graduating class transferring to four-year universities, the 2024 season will see many experienced returning players that are eager to step up and take leadership roles.

Cypress was the only team to defeat Santa Ana in the 2023 playoff bracket when the Chargers defeated the Dons 10-9 in the Super Regional Round. One win away from continuing to the SoCal Regionals, Cypress has many bright spots to look forward to for the fresh season. Head Coach Hutting and the rest of the Chargers baseball squad look to push deep into another 3C2A postseason bracket in the 2024 year.

UP NEXT: Cypress baseball begins their season at home as the Chargers host the Pasadena City Lancers on Friday, January 26th. First pitch will be at 1pm.
