CYPRESS, CA – Cypress Chargers baseball has seen yet another player join Major League Baseball. Coby Morales, who played for Cypress College in the 2021 season, was drafted No. 552 overall by the New York Yankees in the 2023 MLB Draft. In his one year as a Charger, Morales earned First Team honors in the Orange Empire Conference. He finished the 2021 season with a .345 batting average, led the team in walks with 14 and shared the team lead in home runs with four.

After his single year at Cypress College, Morales competed as a Huskie at the University of Washington. In his junior and final year, he hit .332 with an on-base percentage of .432 and slugged .548. His patient eye followed to the four-year university as he recorded the seventh most walks in the Pac-12 with 40. With a year as a Charger and two years at the University of Washington, Morales will now enter the New York Yankees farm system.

Head Coach of Chargers baseball, Anthony Hutting, expressed his excitement on his former player being drafted into the MLB. "It was awesome to see Coby selected by the New York Yankees in the Major League Baseball draft. Coby had a fantastic career here at Cypress and the University of Washington. It goes to show what can happen when you do things the right way with a terrific work ethic. Congrats Coby!"
