Chargers Rank #5 in SoCal Regional 3C2A Bracket Ahead of Playoffs

CYPRESS, CA- Charger baseball (26-13, 12-9 OEC) have concluded the regular season and are preparing for postseason competition.

Cypress baseball has finished the 2023 season fourth in the Orange Empire Conference as the team finished 26-13 overall and 12-9 against conference opponents. Though the standings placement is the same from last season, the team had won one more game then their 2022 outing.

At the start of conference-play, the Chargers got off on the right foot as the team swept the Irvine Valley Lasers. Though the team struggled in their series loss to Golden West, the squad responded and swept Fullerton College. After two series losses, Cypress bounced back with a huge series win over the Orange Coast College Pirates.

The Chargers found themselves in many high-scoring affairs and multiple extra inning finishes that led to more total innings played than any team in the conference. Offensively, the team's collective bats finished first in the OEC in home runs and extra base hits. The team also finished second in doubles and fourth in slugging percentages.

Ahead of the start of the playoffs, Cypress was placed #5 in the SoCal Regional Bracket and #21 in all of California. The team earned home field advantage for the first round and will host the Cerro Coso Coyotes who are ranked the #20 seed in the SoCal Regionals.

The Coyotes finished the season 23-16 with a conference record of 15-9. While their success came mostly from home games with a 14-6 record, the team struggled with road games as their record was 9-10. Cerro Coso finished third in the Inland Empire Conference behind Chaffey and Mt. San Jacinto. Head Coach Anthony Hutting and the rest of the Chargers look to repeat their prior years success in the first round and push further on.
