Chargers Put Up 11 Runs on Wolverines in Victory

CYPRESS, CA- Chargers baseball (9-3, 0-0 OEC) scored eleven runs en route to a win against the San Bernardino Valley Wolverines (5-9, 0-0 IEAC) on Wednesday, 11-5.

Due to weather forecast predictions, the Chargers played on back-to-back days in the cold wind at Cypress College. The home team started to score runs early and heavy with the first five batters of the game able to reach base safely. After leadoff hitter Jack Burke singled, Edgar Rosales doubled to score him from first. A few batters later, Albert De La Rosa followed with a hit to score Rosales. Before the first ended, the Chargers were given a run off of a balk from the Wolverines pitcher with runners on second and third. San Bernardino Valley created a run for themselves in the top of the second inning, but the Chargers responded quickly.

Cypress got busy in the bottom of the second frame and put up five runs. The bottom of the order started the long inning when Isaac Rodriguez touched home after a Burke single. Dean Toigo laced a hit to score Burke later in the frame and a De La Rosa double scored Rosales. Luke Honikel managed to tally two RBI's from a single that allowed Toigo and De La Rosa to cross the plate. One inning after, the Chargers added two more runs on a wild pitch and sacrifice fly from Nick Mascaro. De La Rosa finished the scoring for Cypress in the fourth with a solo shot home run. The Wolverines put together four runs over the five innings that remained as the Chargers won 11-5.

In the double-digit affair by the home team bats, the hits came from up and down the lineup card. Leadoff hitter set the tempo for the team as he went 3-4, with an RBI and scored three times. Shortstop De La Rosa also had three hits on the day with three RBI's, scored twice and left the park for a home run. Honikel was able to collect two RBI's off of his one hit and stole a base during the game. On the mound, hard throwing Evan Adolphus only allowed one run from three hits through his 5.0 innings pitched and struck out four batters. Andrew Dusablon struck out one in his frame and Ben Miltko gave up two runs in his inning. Andrew Banda finished the game in the ninth with a strikeout as Cypress claimed their fourth win in a row.

UP NEXT: The Chargers will be on the road for their next matchup against Palomar on Saturday, February 25th. First pitch will be at 12pm.
