Chargers Win it in Walk-Off Fashion Versus Chaffey

CYPRESS, CA- Chargers baseball (6-3, 0-0 OEC) walk-off the Chaffey Panthers (4-6, 0-0 CVC) in the tenth inning on Tuesday afternoon.

Each side was able to apply pressure early with batters that found a way on base. But both team's pitchers did not allow any damage on the scoreboard in the first or second inning. Cypress managed to break through in the third with some small ball for one run. After Isaac Rodriguez doubled off the wall to center, he advanced to third on an errored pick-off attempt from the Panther's pitcher. With a runner ninety feet away, Jack Burke did his job with a fielder's choice to score the first run of the game.

An inning later, Albert De La Rosa singled and stole second on the left handed Chaffey pitcher. With a two-out and runner in scoring position approach, Edgar Rosales knocked a base hit up the middle to score De La Rosa. Though the Chargers were quiet in the fifth, Nick Mascaro answered the call in the frame that followed. On a windy day, the left fielder lined the pitch over the right field wall for a solo shot. Later in the inning, Ryan White joined in with a long ball over the left-center field to extend the lead to 5-0.

Chaffey collected three runs in the seventh from multiple miscues and an error from the Cypress defense. The home team responded quickly after the seventh inning stretch to score twice. With runners in scoring position, Mascaro tallied two more RBI's with a hard line drive back up the middle. The next frame, Chaffey rallied for four runs to tie the game at 7-7.

In the ninth, Mascaro made an incredible jump catch off the left field wall to keep the game tied. As the game entered extra innings, the visiting Chaffey Panthers scored a run in their first opportunity. Down by one in the bottom of the tenth, Cypress created trouble on the base paths. With runners on second and third, Mascaro stepped up to the plate. He laced the ball over the first baseman's head as Burke was waved home. Both runners scored for the walk-off win in the tenth against Chaffey, 9-8.

Mascaro had a day at the plate, not only with his two-RBI hit to win the game but with a home run, three hits and five RBI's in the game. Burke also recorded a three hit game as he scored twice and had a run batted in. Rosales went 3-5 while White collected two RBI's from his home run. Andrew Dusablon started the game with his 3.2 innings and only allowed three hits while he struck out five. Connor Wylde came in for 3.1 relief innings and allowed three runs but struck out three. Aidan Lambert gave up four runs off one hit in 0.2 frames and Logan Groff finished the game with two strikeouts. The Chargers' resilience showed as they persevered  through their errors and mishaps. Cypress's walk-off in the tenth capped their sixth win of the season and tallied a comeback win in extra innings.
