Chargers Baseball Nick Bautista and Troy Taylor Selected in the 2022 MLB Draft

CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College baseball program has added more players to the professional ranks with Pitcher's Troy Taylor (2020-2021 season) and Nick Bautista (2021-2022 season). "I am very excited for Troy and Nick on their selections in the Major League Baseball draft. These two young men have absolutely earned the opportunity to play professional baseball. As a program, we could not be more proud of Troy and Nick and can't wait to see what the future holds for them," said Head Coach Anthony Hutting.

The Seattle Mariners selected Cypress alumnus Troy Taylor in the 12th round (366th overall) of the 2022 MLB Draft. With the Chargers, Taylor pitched in eight games and five as a starter with a 4.82 ERA during the 2021-2022 season. Taylor then continued his collegiate baseball career at UC Irvine, where he continued his success posting a 3.82 ERA with a season-high 3 strikeouts against CSU Bakersfield in Big West conference play.

 

The Texas Rangers selected Cypress standout Nick Bautista in the 16th round (469th overall) of the 2022 MLB Draft. The Esteban Torres High School alum started 13 games as a freshman for the Chargers in 2022. Bautista averaged 10.88 strikeouts per nine innings with a season-high of nine strikeouts against Saddleback in conference play. He finished the season with a 5.51 ERA and 77 total strikeouts in 15 appearances on the mound helping lead the Chargers to second round SoCal Regional Playoff Appearance.
