Cypress Battles but Comes Up Short Versus El Camino

Cypress, CA – The Cypress Chargers (4-5) hosted the El Camino Warriors (8-2) on Tuesday afternoon. The Chargers faced a tough test against the Warriors and starting pitcher, Thomas Bainton, who came into the game with a 0.49 ERA. The Chargers were unable to come up with key hits in pivotal spots as El Camino took the victory, 5-4.

Edgar Rosales (1-for-4), Nick Mascaro (1-for-4), Dean Toigo (2-for-4) and Luke Honikel (1-for-3, BB) each recorded an RBI for the Chargers. Mario Tostado and Cade Liefer recorded two hits a piece. Nick Bautista got the start on the mound throwing 3.2 innings and striking out eight batters. Sebastian Diaz struck out seven batters over his 4.0 innings pitched in relief. El Camino's, Thomas Bainton, went 5.1 innings striking out five and allowing 3 earned runs.

The Chargers struggled early on with Warriors' pitcher Thomas Bainton having his way through the first five innings of play as Cypress trailed 5-0. The Cypress bats were able to get to Bainton early in the 6th inning as Cade Liefer singled up the middle to get the inning started. Dean Toigo singled putting runners on first and second with no outs. After a fly out from Nathan Jackle, Edgar Rosales doubled off the left field wall sending Liefer across the plate. El Camino would look to the bullpen for help, but the next two batters would single to right field and cut the Charger deficit to two.

Cypress began another rally in the bottom of the seventh as they strung three hits together to begin the inning. Dean Toigo doubled to right field scoring Mario Tostado as the Chargers trailed 5-4 with runners on second and third with no outs. El Camino was able to strike out the next batter and then turned a 5-2-6 double play. The seventh inning rally was the last breath for Cypress. El Camino reliever, Julian Diaz, pitched the final 3.2 innings for the Warriors earning his fourth save of the season as Cypress fell 5-4.
