Cypress Women’s Beach Volleyball Placed Second in the Western Division of OEC

CYPRESS, CA- Cypress Women's Beach Volleyball (10-5, 7-3 OEC) has wrapped up regular season play for the 2023 year. 

The Chargers ended the regular season second in the Western Division of the Orange Empire Conference standings. To kick off the year, the Chargers went on a 3-0 run before falling to El Camino College. 

When conference play began, the team opened the OEC competition with a sweep over the Fullerton Hornets. Cypress was successful in their season series sweeps against Golden West and Santa Ana. In their only meeting of the year, the team swept Riverside 5-0. 

For the OEC Championship competition, the Chargers first through fourth pairs managed to compete in Round 32. Fifth pair Bethany Ma'ae and Jessica Ferreira fell short of Round 32 as they lost to Santiago Canyon in the play-in. 

Ashlyn Riddle and Larissa Samano won their play-in matchup against Riverside City College, then were defeated by Santiago Canyon. Cypress's first and second pair Zoe Munn/Kaelyn Arnold and Shayna Martinez/Kaelie Tulette lost their first matchup in Round 32. 

The Chargers third pair Kailee de Wit/Kiana Salamone were successful as they defeated Golden West's second pair and advanced to Round 16 of the tournament. Then, the Rustlers first pair struck back to defeat the Chargers pair. In their valiant efforts, de Witt/Salamone qualified for the 3C2A SoCal Pairs Regional and will compete on Friday, May 5th at El Camino College.

The collective team is set to compete in the 3C2A SoCal Regional against Santa Barbara City College and San Diego Mesa. Both matches will take place on Tuesday, May 2nd at San Diego Mesa College. 

UP NEXT: The Chargers will compete at San Diego Mesa against Santa Barbara City College at 11am and San Diego Mesa at 2pm.
