HORNETS EARN 20TH WIN WITH STRONG DEFENSE

The No. 3 FC men's basketball team earned its 20th win of the season at home Friday night after beating Cypress College 62-41.

A 20-win season marks a successful one and head coach Perry Webster has hit that mark 8 straight times since he took over the reins in 2015.

The victory over Cypress also moves the Hornets (20-3) up a notch in the Orange Empire Conference standings at 11-0 with five games left. After winning two straight against Riverside and Orange Coast, the Charger loss drops the team to 10-13 overall and 5-6 in the OEC.

The Hornet defense was on point with 14 steals, while holding their opponent to 41 total points for the second time this season (Cypress and Orange Coast)- the least amount scored on Fullerton. Only one Charger player scored in double digits in Peyton Guerrero. He led the team coming off the bench with 12 points. Offensively, the FC had an off night producing its lowest scoring output of the season. Only Amound Anderson II scored in double digits at 13. The first half was rough for both teams shooting from the floor with Fullerton knocking down 31% to the Chargers' 22.7%. In the second half, the Hornets picked up the pace shooting 52% in a game they never trailed.

With Anderson leading the team in scoring at 13, he also managed to bring down 4 rebounds. Jeremiah Davis and Christian Watson both dropped in 8 points. Davis had 5 boards and 2 steals, while Watson swooped up 9 rebounds and had 2 assists.

Up Next: The No. 3 Hornets (20-3 overall, 11-0 OEC) have a big road-game next Wednesday, February 7th when they take on No. 28 Santiago Canyon (17-6, 8-3) at 6:00 pm.
