Women’s tennis picks up OEC win

The Saddleback women's tennis team picked up its first win in conference play with a 9-0 sweep of Cypress College on Tuesday at the Saddleback Tennis Complex.  The Bobcats dropped just two games all day.

Saddleback had a big advantage on Tuesday as Cypress had only four players to start, giving the Bobcats a 3-0 lead out of the gate.  Saddleback then swept past the Chargers in doubles play to secure the team win before ever starting singles play.

Ainsley Beresford and Sydney Grove swept past their opponents at No. 1 singles, 8-0 to give the Bobcats a 4-0 lead.  Ellie Maruna and Averie Valverde did the same at No. 2 doubles, thus securing the win.

Beresford, Grove and Maruna (pictured) all went on to record a second win in singles play at 1-3 singles.  Kellie Hoang also picked up a win at No. 4 singles as the Bobcats pulled off the clean sweep.

Saddleback will play again on Thursday when they travel to Orange Coast to take on the Pirates.  Match time is scheduled for 2:00 PM in Costa Mesa.
