HORNETS FALL IN SHOWDOWN VS CYPRESS

Fullerton could not finish off Orange Empire Conference rival Cypress College at home Friday night as the Hornets lost to the Chargers 56-43.

It was the third time the two teams met this season with Fullerton winning the first (74-72), Cypress taking the second (64-62), and then the Chargers winning it tonight. With both teams fighting for a playoff spot with only six games left, this loss will sting the Hornets, who now sit at 12-10 overall and 3-5 in the Orange Empire Conference. The Charger victory puts the team at 9-13 overall and 5-3 in the OEC.

The first half was a tight one with Cypress taking the first quarter 9-6, but Fullerton came out like gangbusters in the second quarter scoring 14 points to the Chargers' 10. By halftime, the Hornets had a one-point edge at 20-19.

After a close shot-for-shot matching third quarter, the Hornets were up 37-33 heading into the fourth. The only problem was FC's offense went completely cold only mustering up 6 points shooting 16.7% from the floor. The Chargers took advantage scoring 23 points to pull past the Hornets for the win.

Kaylee Shimoda scored a team-high 14 points and Jasmine Arnold followed up with 10 of her own. Katelyn Glumace and Amya Iannone scored 6 points apiece.

Up Next: Fullerton (13-9 overall, 4-4 OEC) will hit the road next Wednesday, February 7th when they play another OEC rival in Riverside City College at 6:00 pm.
