LAST SECOND HEARTBREAKER FOR FC

LAST SECOND HEARTBREAKER FOR FC

Opening conference-play Wednesday night, the Hornets lost a tough one at Cypress College 64-62 breaking up a six-game win streak.

The Hornets had beaten the Chargers 74-72 on December 9th in a non-conference game at the LA Valley College Tournament.

It was Fullerton's game from the start grabbing a 17-9 lead in the first quarter that ended with a nice jumper by Xochitl Hood. In the second quarter, the Chargers made a run getting within a point of FC (24-23), but the Hornets hit back with a 9-2 run pushing their lead to 33-25 by the halftime break. The third quarter saw Fullerton take its biggest lead of the game (13 points), but it was the fourth where things went wrong as Cypress scratched and clawed back in the game. With 1:16 left in regulation, the Chargers had tied the game up at 62 apiece on a jump-shot by Jolie Johnson. The Hornets had a few good looks firing off three unsuccessful shots, but it was Cypress' Jolie Johnson who hit the final shot as the last second ticked off the clock.

Xochitl Hood was the game's scoring leader with 22 points and added 8 rebounds. Toni Ballestero had a good night scoring 18 points with 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Tia Jaquias put up 10 points, had 8 rebounds, 5 steals, and 3 assists.

Up Next: The Hornets (9-6 overall, 0-1 OEC) will pick it back up at home this Friday, January 12th when they host Riverside City College for another OEC matchup. Tipoff is at 6:00 pm.
