Citrus College tried to rally but couldn't overcome the defending 3C2A State Champions in a 9-2 loss at No. 5-ranked Cypress College Thursday afternoon.

The Owls slip to 5-3 with the loss, while the Chargers remain undefeated at 8-0.

Both teams had six hits in the game, but the Owls committed four errors compared to the Chargers' two.

Leah Morales led Citrus with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate and scored one run. Paige Horvat (1-for-1), Madelyn Hajj (1-for-3), Samantha Meyndert (1-for-3) and Kylie Ruiz (1-for-2) also had hits for the Owls.

The Owls got on the board in the top of the fifth after Horvat tripled with two runners on, but it was all the Chargers would allow for the visitors.

Citrus turns right around for a pair of games at Allan Hancock College on Friday, beginning at 12 p.m.
