SASC Advisors

Cypress College is fortunate to have a dynamic group of advisors working in our SASC. Our student-athletes are able to glean wisdom from former and current coaches many of whom played at the Juco level. Our student-athletes are able to work directly with this talented group and learn firsthand what it takes to be successful and how to meet their goals.

Adele Cuevas

Adele Cuevas was born and raised in Whittier, CA where she graduated from Pioneer High School. After graduation, she attended Cerritos College where she earned an Associates of Arts degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences. Adele transferred to California State University, Fullerton, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communications with an emphasis in Entertainment Studies. While studying at Cal State Fullerton, she joined the Los Angeles Clippers Community Relations Department as an intern. The internship with the Clippers gave her more insight into the world of professional sports, while discovering her passion. After graduating with her Bachelor’s degree, Adele decided to continue her education and graduated with her Master's degree from the CSU Long Beach Sports Management Program. While attending graduate school, she had the opportunity to intern with Cal State Los Angeles Athletics Department, Los Angeles Galaxy, and Golden Boy Promotions. While interning at Cal State LA she found the career path she wanted to pursue and that is mentoring and advising student athletes at the college level. She is looking forward to joining the Cypress College Athletic Department and being a mentor for the student athletes.

Adele has been married for 9 years to her husband Gabriel and together they have a 5 year old son named Adrian. They enjoy traveling in their travel trailer to local campsites in California and one day are hoping to take it out of state. They are also Magic Key pass holders and enjoy going to Disneyland.

Diamond Neal

Diamond Neal was born and raised in different parts of Los Angeles, mainly between Mid City and South Central LA. She received her Bachelor’s in Psychology & Social Behavior from UC Irvine and her Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Mount Saint Mary’s University. Before transitioning into higher education, Diamond worked as a Special Education Assistant for the Los Angeles Unified School District and as a Professional Mentor at a nonprofit serving families impacted by the child welfare system. Through these experiences, she found her passion for serving and advocating for marginalized communities. As a former foster youth who transitioned out of the system, she has personally overcome several adverse childhood experiences and found that higher education was the key to her overall success.  She would like to share her ever-growing knowledge and tools with other students who are striving to attain academic, career, and personal achievement. Diamond believes that with the proper resources, encouragement, and emphasis placed on equity and mental health, students can use what they’ve learned to dictate their own futures. In her free time, she enjoys doing makeup, spending time with friends and family, and discovering new foods and desserts.

Jacqueline Alcalá

Jacqueline (she/her/ella) completed her undergraduate studies at UC Santa Barbara and is now a graduate student at CSU Long Beach in the Student Development in Higher Education (SDHE) masters program. Jacqueline is a first-generation, system-impacted Latinx student whose navigational capital was extremely limited when pursuing higher education and throughout her career development. In an effort to further the educational pipeline and close equity gaps, she hopes to serve the Cypress community as the mentor and advisor she once needed. As a former student-athlete herself, she looks forward to serving this student population and assisting them throughout their educational journey! In her free time, Jacqueline finds joy in grocery shopping, binge watching Netflix series, traveling through México, or enjoying sporting events with friends and family.

Kaytlin Cota

Kaytlin, literally, grew up in the athletic department as her mom has worked in the department in eligibility for over twenty years. She began working in an official capacity in 2017 working athletic events and assisting within the athletic department offices. She has been an advisor in the Success Center since 2019. Supporting athletes has become a passion for her and she feels that providing athletes with the tools to be successful is so important. Her passion is epitomized in her belief that she is providing athletes a safe space where she can be an ally for student-athletes who may need support beyond their sport.

Kaytlin attended nearby Kennedy High School where she was a dancer and competitive cheerleader. She received her Associate of Arts in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Cypress College and she is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s in Sociology at Cal State Dominguez Hills. When she is not supporting our athletes she enjoys spending time with her twin sister and watching sports.
