Freshman women's water polo standout, Andrea Corrigan, earned her first career Charger of the Week Award during Thursday's practice. Corrigan is the third women's water polo player this season to earn the award.
Corrigan capitilized on double teams sent toward leading scorers Natasha Velez and Josie Miller, netting 4 goals and grabbing 4 steals of her own during the Chargers' four-game run in the 21st Annual Battle of the Beach Tournament, hosted by Cypress, Cerritos, and Long Beach City College this past weekend. After losing the tournament opener to Mt. SAC, the Chargers earned victories over Citrus, Cuesta, and Ventura to finish ninth in the 22-team tournament.
The Garden Grove High School alumna has scored 16 total goals this season and ranks second on the team with 13 assists.
Women's water polo is currently ranked No. 9 in the state, according to the most recent CCCAA poll. The Chargers boast a 12-5 overall record and 2-3 record in Orange Empire Conference play. Cypress will look to make some noise during the OEC Championship Tournament November 1-3 at Fullerton College.
