Chargers Dominate San Diego Tournament, Finish 4-0

SAN DIEGO, CA – The Cypress College women's water polo team (7-3, 0-2 OEC) went 4-0 in the San Diego Tournament over the weekend.

The Chargers began the weekend with wins over Ventura and Palomar on Friday. Sophomore Josie Miller led Cypress with 5 goals in the 11-5 tournament opening win over the Pirates. Miller followed up her performance with 3 goals in a tightly contested 10-7 victory over the Comets. Sophomore Natasha Velez added 3 goals, 2 assists, and 2 steals.

Cypress returned to the pool on Saturday, picking up another two dominant wins. The Chargers began the day with a 13-2 victory over Southwestern College. Again, it was Miller and Velez leading the way with 4 goals each. Miller added 2 assists, while Velez notched 3 steals.

Cypress wrapped up the weekend with a 12-7 victory over tournament host San Diego Mesa College. The Chargers trailed 7-5 after the opening quarter, but finished the game on a 7-0 run to earn their fourth win. Miller led the way on offense, netting a game-high 5 goals, while Jade Towgood and Sara Morris anchored the defense with 4 steals each.

Women's water polo returns to Orange Empire Conference action at home on Wednesday, October 3. Cypress will take on Orange Coast College in the Aquatics Center at 3:00 pm.
