Lady Chargers Win Three at Mt. SAC Classic

WALNUT, CA – The Cypress College women's water polo team (5-3, 0-2 OEC) picked up three wins with just one loss at the Mt. San Antonio College Classic this weekend.

The Lady Chargers began the weekend with back-to-back victories over LA Valley College, 11-4 and Fresno City College, 10-5 on Friday at Rio Hondo. Cypress began Saturday with a 4-7 loss to host Mt. SAC before defeating El Camino College 16-6 to end the weekend.

Natasha Velez led the Chargers with 17 tournament goals and 11 steals, including a game-high 6 goals and 4 steals in Cypress' final game of the tournament against the Warriors.

"I think the biggest thing so far for us is that we've improved every game this season," said first year Head Coach Mark Canner. "Overall what I'd take away from the weekend is that we started to string together quality possessions on offense and defense. Limiting our mistakes made us more productive on both ends."

The women's water polo team will return to action in an Orange Empire Conference home opener against Santa Ana College on Wednesday at 3:00 pm.
