Women's Tennis Gets Back on the Court in First OEC Match of the Season

CYPRESS,CA- The Cypress women's tennis team (0-1, 0-1 OEC) faced off against Riverside College (1-0, 1-0 OEC) on Tuesday afternoon. The Chargers saw their first action on the court in over a year, but fell to the Tigers 8-1 in the first match of the season.

Despite the 8-1 defeat, Cypress stayed competitive throughout the singles and doubles matches. Freshman, Michaela Scott, earned the lone singles victory for the Chargers (6-2, 7-5). Kaylene Fabros, battled in defeat in her singles match taking it to three sets (10-7). Jayda Steele and Victoria Gomes showed promise as teammates as they were the first pair to face off against the Riverside number one's losing 8-6. Kaylene Fabros and Michaela Scott also battled but fell, 8-6 as well.

After the match Coach Harris said, "This was the most competitive 8-1 match I have been apart of at Cypress. You can see in doubles we just missed out on wins from pairings one and two. In singles, we were also very competitive at the one, three, and four matchups. If we can find away to pull those out then the outcome will be much different. I am super proud of all the gals, they've worked so hard and it showed on the court. They competed hard and gave it all they had. We get another chance on Thursday. Go Chargers!"

UP NEXT: The Chargers will look for a chance to earn their first win on Thursday, April 15th, when they face off against Riverside. Cypress will travel to RCC and take on the Tigers at 2pm.
