Swimmer Kayleen Bretz Accepts Offer from Concordia University Irvine

CYPRESS, CA – Cypress College sophomore women's swimming standout Kayleen Bretz has accepted an offer from Concordia University, where she will continue swimming competitively next season.

Concordia University, located in Irvine, CA, competes at the NCAA Division II level as a member of the Pac West Conference. "I was looking at a few schools and Concordia was definitely the best option for me. I really like their campus," said Bretz. "It's a small family like campus and I really like the coach."

Bretz put together a historic freshman season with the Chargers, setting new Cypress records in the 500 freestyle (5:17.84) and the 1650 freestyle (18:11.79) in 2017. She followed up her record setting freshman season with strong performances during her sophomore year.

"Cypress has helped me a lot with my swimming and academic career. I didn't even plan on swimming in college until Coach Beidler recruited me," said Bretz, who is currently preparing for the upcoming OEC Championship meet with hopes of competing at the CCCAA State Championships in May.

Bretz plans to major in Psychology while competing at Concordia. She wants to earn a Master's degree and pursue a career in criminal profiling upon graduation.
