Women's Swim & Dive End Season at CCCAA State Championships

MONTEREY PARK, CA - As the 2016 swim and dive season came to a close Kiley Kendall, Esther Kim, Ariel Burns, and Leigh Hodgson represented Cypress College at the California Community College Athletic Association State Championship meet at East Los Angeles College.

Kiley Kendall was out to break a record that had eluded her at the OEC Championships.  Starting off with the 100-yard breaststroke, Kendall was seeded with her personal best time of 1:09.99 just .07 seconds away from the school record.  Kendall finished 16th but unfortunately could not break the team record. Her placement ranked her as one of the top breaststrokers in the state, and one of the premier breaststrokers in the Southern California Community College system. "I'm extremely grateful to have been part of such and amazing team…I couldn't have had such a successful season without my coaches and teammate pushing me to be my best, I was able to achieve my goals," said Kendall.

Sophomore diver Leigh Hodgson stepped up her game in the two day diving events.  Hodgson led the Lady Charger dive team all season and the state meet was no different. She finished 11th on the 3-meter board and 12th on the 1-meter board, holding off competitors from Grossmont and American River College.

With the season coming to an end the Cypress College Swim & Dive Program is already looking toward the future. "Our Charger swimmers and divers rose to the occasion this season with several team records broken and many personal bests accomplished, setting the table for a strong team next season," said Head Coach Larry Beidler.
