Cypress Shuts Out Golden West 2-0 At Home
Early first half scoring and great defense leads to a Chargers win
CYPRESS, CA - Cypress College earned a convincing 2-0 victory over Golden West (8-3-4, 2-3-3 OEC) on Monday afternoon in Orange Empire Conference play, improving to 11-4 overall and 5-3 in conference action. The Chargers controlled the match from the opening whistle, outshooting the Rustlers 15–1 and securing their sixth clean sheet of the season.
Jasmin De La Torre opened the scoring in the 20th minute, capitalizing on a loose ball that rolled towards her from 25 yards out to give Cypress an early lead. The Chargers struck again just before halftime as Angela Herrera buried a well-placed finish in the 45th minute, assisted by Naomi Lee, to extend the advantage to two goals.
Cypress continued to press in the second half with nine additional shots, while the defensive unit locked down Golden West, holding the Rustlers without a shot on goal over the final 45 minutes. Goalkeeper Emily Peñaloza completed a dominant defensive performance with one save.
Cypress returns to action tomorrow as the Chargers push toward postseason positioning in the OEC standings. They are currently fourth in their conference.
